ALI SIDDALL
Ali Siddall is an artist living and working in Fowey, Cornwall. She uses acrylic paint intuitively, letting the movement and feel of the paint on the canvas inform the sense of place.
Her work draws deeply from the ephemeral palettes of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; the turquoise, coppers, blues and greens relate to the sea and land. Flashes of copper, tin and gold indicate those who worked there through fishing, mining and farming. She forages locally for clay pigments and crushed mussel shells to ensure a part of Cornwall is always physically present in the work.
Focusing in on the moment where rocks and sand meet sea, and sea meets the horizon, the paintings explore an elemental multiplicity in the hazy in-between. This haunting space can be described by the nautical term, 'the offing', an invisible transition between sea and sky.
When walking the Celtic landscapes and beaches, Ali is interested in thin spaces as portals into deep time, connecting us to the feeling of generations gone still passing by.
Ali's work has recently been displayed at the St Ives Society of Artists Spring Open, Mariners Gallery, St Ives. Ali is also an exhibiting artist at the Old Bank Gallery, Fowey and will be exhibiting at the Salthouse Gallery, St Ives in 2026 as part of a duo show in collaboration with Lisa Rennocks.
